Katie Carr Poses with Thomas Longacre

Katie Carr started her martial arts training in Shorin Ryu Karate in 2002, in Mannford, Oklahoma, where she would obtain the rank of Green Belt in Shorin Ryu after 2 years of hard work.  In 2004, the school Katie attended closed, but this did not stop Katie.  She soon transitioned into a new school in Mannford and began her studies in Traditional Japanese Goju Ryu Karate.  Upon attaining the rank of purple belt, she began training directly under Grandmaster Ted Soliday, 9th Dan at his Sapulpa Institute of Karate in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.    Katie has also worked to hone her skills outside of her school by training with others, like Thomas "Thunderkick" Longacre (http://www.thunderstorm2007.com) from Chuck Norris' World Combat League and member of the WCL Oklahoma Destroyers.  Most recently, on June 19th, 2007 Katie’s training has paid off as she achieved a long time goal.  Katie, for the first time, tied a black belt around her waist.  The journey was long and the test was tough, but Katie, as she has done countless times in tournament competition, showed that she was more than up for the challenge.  Moreover, Katie being wise beyond her years, knows that the black belt she has worked so hard for is still at the beginning of her journey in the martial arts.  Katie wishes to master Gojo Ryu and then expand her understanding of other martial arts.

Katie’s tournament career began soon after she started training.  She started out competing in local tournaments around the Tulsa area.  Soon, she would come into her own as she was named 2006 State Champion for her division by the Oklahoma Karate Association and was ranked 1st in the state for Fighting, and 2nd for Forms competition.  Katie also was named a 2006 Amateur Champion by Sport Karate International for placing 3rd

in Fighting at the Super Grands - Sport Karate International 2006 Tournament held in Buffalo, New York.    Katie has now expanded her circle of competition and has joined us on the AKA circuit where she has been racking up the points in the advanced division.  Junior black belts of the AKA beware……. Ms. Carr is joining your ranks!

As to Katie’s goals and interests outside of martial arts—after high school she plans to go on to college to become a psychiatrist and desires to raise a family some day.  Katie's interests and hobbies include video games, focusing on art, reading, and writing her own stories.  She has posted her first story on FanFiction.net.  With a great interest in writing, she finds inspiration in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien.  On any given weekend, when there is not a karate tournament, she can be found writing stories or conquering the World of Warcraft.  Katie's favorite color is Grey.
