Many of us enjoyed watching
“American Idol” on the
television last season and seeing Jordin Sparks voted at the end by
the judges and the public as their favorite performer. Well, how
about a program that allowed any of our member competitors (All ages
– Underbelt or Blackbelt, but no AKA promoters) to perform at any of
our scheduled American Karate Association Southern Region
tournaments throughout the year 2008 and be voted as the top male
and female performers in our special
“AKA Idol” division (This
division will cost the performer $5 to enter) by our AKA Southern
Region Promoter Judges for that day?
If you did not make it as the “Top Male or
Female Performer” that day, you may re-enter at each of the next
tournaments to continue trying to make top male or female performer
of the day. If, however, you are chosen as the “Top Male or Female
Performer” that day, you do not need to re-enter again at the
tournaments in 2008 until the last one.
The last tournament of the year (Currently
scheduled for Eureka Springs on November 8th) will
showcase the “AKA Idol” division
and the 6 top male and 6 top female performers from each of the 2008
prior tournaments will perform again for the judges and, this time,
also for the spectators. Following these performances at the last
tournament, each judge and each spectator will enter a performer’s
name that they feel exhibited the best martial arts performance and
their own name on a special ballot prior to leaving the tournament
that day, which will be given to Linda Groves, Regional
Representative for the American Karate Association Southern Region.
The winner will be notified immediately and
then announced at the AKA Southern Region Awards Banquet in March
2009. The person who is voted as our “AKA Idol of 2008” (One only –
either male or female) will be awarded the following benefits …1)
Free membership renewal for 2009 ($25-$50 value); 2) Free basic
registration to all 2009 AKA Southern Region-sanctioned tournaments
(Average $280 value); 3) An AKA ring ($50 value); 4) ½ price of $300
off the original total cost of $600 to attend Sensei John Sharkey’s
Summer Camp 2009 (All styles) for 3 days which includes meals,
lodging and training by several of his world champions.
Black Belt Idol Contestants will have a
separate division of their own and will receive only the Free Basic
Registration for the 2009 Tournaments when they win. Hey,
sometimes the Under Black Belts have to come out ahead! After
all, they are our future!
Please contact Linda Groves either in person at
our tournaments, or by phone (479) 253-0448 or by Email:
